Wild Sage Press: Laura Burkhart, Brenda Niskala

Wild Sage Press, the new literary publisher in Regina, Saskatchewan, celebrated its first editions this week. The first titles — both poetry collections — are Brenda Niskala's How to Be a River and Laura Burkhart's Watermarks.

It was a treat to hear Burkhart and Niskala each read from their work!

Press publisher Barbara Kahan explained to the capacity crowd at the Connaught Library launch that each book was printed on textured paper and bound by hand by friends and others committed to sharing the new work of writers. Only 100 copies of each book were produced; if any remain, they can be ordered through the WSP website...

Or, if you live in or plan to visit Hawai'i, the Hawai'ian launch of Watermarks will be held November 26, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at the North Kohala Library.  (Yes, Laura left us in Regina to move to Hawai'i... With winter coming to the Prairies, I can think of a few reasons why we should join her there...)

Hagios Launches Keating, Elias, Safarik

A few photos from the Hagios Press fall launch, featuring David Elias (novella: Henry's Game), Allan Safarik (poetry: Famous Roadkill), and Bridget Keating (poetry: Red Ceiling).

The launch was held at The Artesian in Regina, Saskatchewan, with very entertaining readings by all — as witness that smile on Safarik's face. (Yes, poetry can be very funny.) Elias' was also darkly humorous, with his road trip tale of a mid-life crisis.

And congrats to Keating, for her first poetry collection, part of Hagios' Strike Fire series for new authors.
