Magical Mystery Poetic Readings in the Park

When I edited this photo of poet Anne Campbell reading at Words in the Park, I clearly wasn't watching what all of the PhotoShop controls were doing...

But I like the result, colours springing from nowhere — merging and fleeing at will.

Victoria Park, Regina, Saskatchewan: With writers like Annette Bower, Anne Campbell, Tara Dawn Solheim, Wes Funk and Marion Mutala, the Words in the Park reading series provided a great reason to walk to the park on Wednesdays this summer.

The reading series, sponsored by the Saskatchewan Writers Guild, the Regina Public Library, Regina Downtown and the Saskatchewan Publishers Group, drew consistent noon-hour numbers. (Thanks, Tracy, for organizing!)

Annette, Anne and Tara Dawn read on August 17, while Wes and Marion read on August 24.

Another great noon reading Wednesday, this time from writers Larry Warwaruk, Jillian Bell and Brenda Niskala.

The event is sponsored by the Saskatchewan Writer's Guild, the Saskatchewan Publishers Group, Regina Public Library, and Regina Downtown.

Two more Words in the Park readings are planned for this summer: August 17,  with Annette Bower, Tara Dawn Solheim and Anne Campbell; and Aug. 24, with Marion Mutal, Wes Funk and Christina Shah.

All Words in the Park readings are in the South East part of Victoria Park — look for the folding chairs and drop by with your lunch to listen — or, if it's raining, in the Main Branch of the Regina Public Library, across Lorne Street from the park. (I've enjoyed attending a few; vacation and work have interfered...)

Brenda Niskala is a poet and fiction writer whose latest book is For the Love of Strangers. Larry Warwaruk's novels include The Ukrainian Wedding, as well as Andrei and the Snow Walker. Jillian Bell is a writer and editor, also known as the The Bookchick from 91.3FM CJTR radio. And the event was hosted by Jan Morier of the Saskatchewan Writers Guild.
